The development of ETE started more than 15 years ago as part of a thesis project. It was always maintained without direct funding. Only recently, thanks to a grant from the CZI EOSS program, we managed to boost the development of old-standing ideas and prototypes. In a few months, our huge tree visualization prototype became real, and a number of ideas got back in motion.
We want take advantage this impulse to also rebuild our community and improve our contribution system.
Getting Support and Contributing
We are very few core developers, and we inevitably get busier and busier with other stuff. ETE has a large user base, and we receive more questions and support requests that we can cope, which are currently coming via personal emails, mailing lists, stackoverflow threads, biostarts, etc.
This is a call to our home community: Let's get together in a common discussion forum and, please, participate!
Use this discussion forum to ask general questions, and reserve github issues for reports about code and development
If you use ETE and you know how to solve a question, please don't be shy and share your comments. That's a huge help for everyone.
If you are developer and want to contribute, read our guidelines and get involved.
1st ETE hackthon
We are currently planning a hackathon towards the official release of ETE v4. Core developers will probably meet in person for ~5 days, but external contributors and people interested in following the event, providing feedback, or helping with logistics are very welcome to join in a remote way.
If you are interested, please get in touch here, so we can better plan the logistics of the event.
