Volunteering as a mentor

Hello, great to see elementary participating in GSoC. It’s probably too early a stage, but just putting out there that I’m available to take up a mentor role, should there be a suitable project.

How I could be of help:

• Prior experience with GSoC: I was a student participant in 2014.
• Technical experience: I’ve developed a couple of apps for AppCenter, contributed to a few, been trying to hack on vala-lint, and been writing web apps professionally for 6+ years.
• Have a thorough understanding of the HIG and know my way around GObject libs, Valadoc, etc.
• If a student happens to be in the Eastern hemisphere, I can be in reach for large parts of their day. (I’m in UTC+0530.)

Where I fall short:

• No experience with lower-level components like Wingpanel, Gala, packaging and OS building.
• With a full-time job, I can only spend 1–2 hours on weekdays (but spread across waking hours) and more on weekends.

Again, this might not be a time to decide anything, but wanted to indicate my availability and interest.

And even if I cannot mentor for any reason, rest assured that I will help out in any way possible. Cheers. ✌️

Hey @dar5hak thanks a ton for reaching out and being proactive since this is like not even announced anywhere! That would be really helpful to have some experienced with the GSOC process to give guidance, I would really appreciate that. Something we need as part of our application to GSOC is a referral from a previous participant. Would you be willing to act as that referral for us? :)
