Hi @nreese , seems that Canvas would be deprecated in Kibana 9.0. Dou you have any estimation about when the Canvas functionality will be removed from Kibana so the existing workpads would not work anymore?
Thanks, David

Tentative planning is to remove Canvas in 10.0. This deadline is tentative and could be extended. While there is no release date for 10.0, major releases are usually 18 to 36 months apart and 9.0 is not release yet, so it will be a while. If you are using canvas, we would be interested to know which features only canvas has and why dashboard does not meet our requirements.

Hi @nreese, we were starting using Canvas for pixel-perfect, paginated reporting that needs to be exported to PDF and printed (we already have ELK subscription). As the Canvas feature will be removed and no evolution in the last years, after your announcement of deprecation we are moving initially to Dashboards. Two main requirements are:

  • Pixel-perfect reporting. We need to control the layout and exact location of each panel (both text/images and tables/charts). Also we need to control de appearance of text in both text panels and charts (font size, font color, background...).
  • Paginated reports. As the reports are too big to fit in a A4 paper sheets, we need to control which panels are laid out in each page of the report.

Direct CSS modification of panels is also a plus in Canvas.

We can discuss in more detail specifics requirements in Dashboards to meet at some degree the Canvas functionality, here or in separate FR if you prefer. We decided to abandon Canvas now and assume degraded functionality about layout and exact visualizacion with Dashboards.
