Attempt to fix #358 - the problem occurs because the code to handle alternativeRowScanning assumed that the grid was regular lat/lon and therefor had 2 dimensions. The current case is a Mercator grid, represented with just 1 dimension and therefore does not need to handle alternativeRowScanning.
