Exploding panned_noise results in 3 automation points for azimuth at time 6.5 sec. This is likely due to a "wrapped" parameter, but why are we generating 3 points rather than 2?

Possibly not an issue anymore - again, quite a lot of work in this area since this ticket. A quick import of panned_noise_adm will confirm.
Still an issue in v1.1.0b
