language recognition when out of focus

I'm running on ubuntu 20.04 and noticed that when I speak in English I obtain similar results whether the focus is on the terminal/python window or directly in a text document or on the internet.

However, in other languages (e.g. French) I obtain quite different results when I am out of focus: in focus the transcription is good, out of focus I get words in a totally different language.
