Use cases:

  1. Use the endpoint to implement custom auto-scaling logic ([Feature] Provide a public API to scale services #1762)
  2. Export metrics to Prometheus/Grafana

#1827 added a metrics API. Exporting metrics to external system can be done manually and we should add examples on how to do that.
