Mission Model Notes
The Challenge Set bag structure has changed this year. In previous seasons, you might have multiple bags marked with the same number to indicate they went with the same instruction set. For example, Bag 7 might actually three separate bags all labeled as "7." This year, each bag has a unique number, so while there are more numbers, the physical number of bags is comparable to previous years.
There are 33 numbered bags (1 to 33). There are two lose pieces (black rods). There are two unmarked bags that have parts that will be pulled into multiple models, so be aware. There is no Brick Separator in this year's Challenge Set.
Because LEGO pieces are packed by weight, you will likely have extra copies of the smallest pieces in your bags. I've noted these as "extra pieces" where I encounter them.
Build 1 includes Bag 1 and Bag 2. It requires two pieces from the unmarked bags. This build is for Coral Nursery (Mission 01).
Pay close attention to the rotating pattern in Steps 15 through 19.
In Step 20, the dark purple pieces are going in the right-side of the left top piece and the right-side of the right bottom piece. The light blue pieces are going in the right-side of the right top piece and the right-side of the left bottom piece. In the initial release, there are erroneous light purple/pink pieces that are actually added in Step 21 (both in the right-side of the right near piece and of the right far piece).
In Step 41, note that there is a duplication of the subassembly.
I recorded nine (9) extra pieces in this build.
Build 2 includes Bag 3 and Bag 4. It requires one piece from the unmarked bags. This build is for Coral Reef (Mission 03).
I recorded seven (7) extra pieces in this build.
Build 3 includes Bags 5, 6, and 7. It requires two pieces from the unmarked bags. This build is for Shark (Mission 02).
Be careful in Step 18 - there is a slipping and a pinching harzard. This build also features several rotations and assymetric parts, especially in the early steps, so pay close attention.
I recorded seven (7) extra pieces in this build.
Build 4 includes Bag 8. This build is for the Scuba Diver (Mission 04).
The ring assembly in Step 4 appears to attach to the upper half of the diver's back.
I recorded no extra pieces in this build.
Build 5 includes Bags 9, 10, and 11. It requires one piece from the unmarked bags. This build is for Angler Fish (Mission 05).
In Steo 25, the added piece does connect to both the red and black pieces on the pre-built portion.
I recorded ten (10) extra pieces in this build.
Build 6 includes Bag 12 and Bag 13. It requires three pieces from the unmarked bags. This build is for Raise the Mast (Mission 06).
I recorded seven (7) extra pieces in this build.
Build 7 includes Bag 14 and Bag 15. This build is for Artificial Habitat (Mission 08).
I recorded three (3) extra pieces in this build.
Build 8 includes Bag 16 and Bag 17. It requires nine pieces from the unmarked bags. This build is for Unexpected Encounter (Mission 09).
In Step 27, ensure that the bottom of the piece being added to the subassembly rests in the opening of the piece that was previously added.
I recorded nine (9) extra pieces in this build.
Build 9 includes Bags 18, 19, and 20. It requires four pieces from the unmarked bags. It also requires the two loose pieces. This build is for Send over the Submersible (Mission 10).
Note that beginning with Step 1 there are two subassemblies being built. This double subassembly continues through Step 26.
I recorded six (6) extra pieces in this build.
Build 10 includes Bag 21 and Bag 22. It requires five pieces from the unmarked bags. This build is for Sonar Discovery (Mission 11).
Note that starting with Step 13 there are two subassemblies being built. This continues through Step 18.
In Step 26, the pieces should sit flush together - make sure you rotate them correctly so they attach all the way.
Note that starting with Step 29 there are four subassemblies being built. This continues through Step 30.
I recorded two (2) extra pieces in this build.
Build 11 includes Bag 23 and Bag 24. It requires two pieces from the unmarked bags. This build is for Feed the Whale (Mission 12).
Pay attention to how the subassembly is rotated in Step 43.
I recorded six (6) extra pieces in this build.
Build 12 includes Bag 25. This build is for Change Shipping Lanes (Mission 13).
I recorded two (2) extra pieces in this build.
Build 13 includes Bags 26, 27, 28, and 29. It requires nine pieces from the unmarked bags. This build is for Research Vessel (Mission 15). If building in order, this build uses the last of the pieces from the unmarked bags.
I recorded six (6) extra pieces in this build.
Build 14 includes Bags 30, 31, and 32. This build is for Sample Collection (Mission 14).
I recorded nine (9) extra pieces in this build.
Build 15 includes Bag 33. It includes the six PRECISION TOKENS, some SUBMERGED memorabilia tiles, and some SUBMERGED key chains!
