Ripple 2.0.0 release

Announcing the Ripple 2.0 public release.

The latest version of Ripple is now available. All new Victorian Government branded sites should now be built using the Ripple 2.0 design system.

Ripple 2.0 is the design system for Victorian Government branded digital products. For the past 12+ months, the Single Digital Presence (SDP) team has been refactoring the original Ripple design system to bring you the latest version, Ripple 2.0.

Ripple 2.0 promotes efficiency by providing reusable styles, components and patterns.

It provides a set of standards to manage design at scale, to:

• reduce redundancy
• create a shared language
• provide visual consistency

Developer contributions can be shared across projects, adding value to all government departments. This results in reduced project development time and expense.

As part of the refactor, we have documented the features and functions of Ripple 2.0 to help guide developers and designers to build Victorian Government websites.

Timeline

Now

• Ripple 2.0 is available for use
• SDP are currently finalising Ripple 2.0 to ensure it is ready and tested for production
• SDP has a freeze on Ripple 1 development on SDP sites, except for urgent fixes.

Next

• SDP will be rolling out Ripple 2.0 to SDP-managed sites over the next 12 months.

March 2024

SDP vendor support will cease for Ripple 1.

Migrating to Ripple 2.0

SDP-managed Ripple 1.x sites

Over the next 12 months, the SDP team will migrate SDP-managed sites to Ripple 2.0.

The SDP team will be reaching out to site managers to discuss the migration plan.

Independently managed Ripple 1.x sites

Nuxt 2 framework is now end of life and Vue 2 will only be supported by the vendor until 31 December 2023.

SDP will maintain support for Ripple 1 sites until March 2024 to allow time for vendors to update client sites to Ripple 2.0. This support will include critical bugs impacting site availability and security issues only.

Beyond this date SDP will no longer provide support for Ripple 1.x sites.

For sites not maintained by SDP, your options are:

Migrate to Ripple 2.0

SDP has provided resources to assist with the migration:

The Vue and Nuxt APIs upgrade cannot be automated and will require development effort.

Please reach out to your site owners to begin the migration discussion.

Stay on Ripple 1

SDP will support Ripple 1 until March 2024 to address any outstanding critical issues.

After March 2024, will not be providing updates to Ripple 1. Any sites remaining on Ripple 1 after this date will be at the site owners risk.

How to Upgrade an Existing Project to Ripple 2 ?
