Travel Information

Getting here

North Carolina State University is located close to downtown Raleigh. The nearest airport is Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU). The campus is a 25 minute car ride from the airport. A taxi is usually $25-30 by Uber/Lyft one-way and is the quickest way to get to/from the airport.

Hotel Information

Many hotels in downtown Raleigh and Cary would be convenient. A few are listed below:

  • The StateView Hotel: This hotel is located on Centennial Campus with its own restaurant and bar. A car would be recommended for getting around.
  • Aloft, Hillsborough Street: This hotel is located close to the main campus. It is probably the closest hotel to Witherspoon Student Center where FWCG22 will be conducted on October 14th. This hotel is also a 20 min bus ride to Engineering Building 2 via Wolfline Route 41.
  • Homewood Suites by Hilton Raleigh Cary I-40: There are a few hotels in this area in Cary. A car would be the best way to get to campus from this hotel. If one wishes to use public transport then GoRaleigh route 305 passes close by. A one-way bus ride with a short walk should take 40 minutes.

Transportation Within NCSU

Buses

GoRaleigh is a bus network managed by the city of Raleigh with regular service from NCSU to downtown Raleigh.

NCSU's Wolfline manages a strong system of buses within campus. Routes 20, 40, and 41 connect Centennial Campus to Main Campus. For more information (including bus stops and live bus locations) please check NCSU Wolfline.

No fares or identification are required on either system.

Parking

14 Oct

Parking on campus is by permit only on Mondays through Fridays from 7 am to 5 pm. One can pay and park at Dan Allen Carriageway located right across Witherspoon Student Center with additional parking in the Bragaw C Lot and Dan Allen Parking Deck. More details can be found here

15 Oct

Parking is a little more relaxed on weekends when visitors can park in any 'C' type parking areas. There are many such spots on Centennial Campus including Partner's Way Deck, Oval West Deck, the Oval Drive and Entrepreneur Drive. However, please note that parking areas where student resident permits are required are still enforced on weekends. There are clear signs outside every parking lot about the permit needed to park there and what time of the week it is enforced.

Food and Drink

  • Talley Student Union is located a few minutes from Witherspoon Student Center along Cates Avenue. The food court there is a recommendation for lunch on the 14th.
  • Hillsborough Street passes along the north of NCSU and is lined with small restaurants serving a wide variety of quick meals.
  • Cameron Village District: The Village district is a cluster of upscale eateries a stone's throw from NCSU.
  • Glenwood South District: This street is paved with bars and restaurants open until the wee hours of the morning and is one of the most happening areas in the city. Raleigh Beer Garden offers one of the largest selections of draft beers in the world.
  • Warehouse District: There is a fine collection of modern eateries and fancy bars in this former industrial center of downtown Raleigh. Morgan Street Food Hall boasts about 20 local vendors serving cooked-to-order meals and specialty foods.

Childcare

NCSU does not have the facility to provide daycare services. Fortunately there are many places in Raleigh close by.
