The list of projects I can join is much smaller in the work app than the new UI join buttons. I'm not totally clear on all the logic, but I think you need to check the project visibility not private. And projects that I don't belong to currently. The above is for what to show a Join button for.

Then I think that projects that have joining style == moderated have a fobi form to apply for the project in the work app. We would need to do something like that.

@bum2 could supply all the logic for this better than I can.

Or maybe this feature is best left for the work app, at least for now. That would be my opinion, as it is not a daily use feature.
