Epic Summary

As a veteran accessing health tools on the unauthenticated VA.gov experience, I want to remain on VA.gov without being redirected to MHV Classic.
I want to be assisted with the latest CAIA-developed content around identity verification.
I want the experience to be a11y compliant.
As a Veteran with multiple Oracle Health facilities in my record, I still only want to see one CTA for My VA Health (Oracle Health).

Problem Statement

Currently, veterans accessing health tools like Secure Messaging, Medications, and Medical Records from the unauthenticated VA.gov experience are directed to the My HealtheVet (MHV Classic) portal, leading to a fragmented and confusing user experience. Veterans interacting with Oracle Health facilities may face additional complexities, and there are accessibility issues that need to be addressed across these experiences.

Goals

  1. Ensure that veterans accessing Secure Messaging, Medications, and Medical Records from the unauthenticated VA.gov experience remain on VA.gov.
  2. Improve the user experience for veterans with Oracle Health facilities.
  3. Address existing accessibility issues in widgets.

Acceptance Criteria

Widget Functionality:

  • The sign-in widgets on the unauthenticated Secure Messaging, Medications, and Medical Records pages display alerts and instructions based on the user’s identity verification status.
  • Veterans associated with Oracle Health facilities receive a tailored experience, with any special instructions or workflows surfaced in a clear, accessible manner.
  • Users are provided with clear, actionable steps to verify their identity if required.
  • Accessibility testing is completed to ensure that screen reader support, color contrast, and navigational elements are fully compliant with VA standards

Additional Considerations

  • Analytics and monitoring to ensure the smooth rollout of these changes.
  • Communication and training for users and support staff regarding the new sign-in experience.

OLD style of widget (SM example)

Note:

  • Multiple Oracle Health sites are enumerated in a list and each gets its own navigation button. The screenshot uses VA.gov user 0.
  • Accessibility issue: links that look like buttons.

NEW style of widget (Appts)

Note:

  • Why does it only list Spokane as a non-MHV facility? In the other screenshot you can see that this user has four or five Oracle Health facilities.
