Imagine a desired form of the Open Hardware coordination center is made possible, similar to the eScience center. What are your suggestion for the activities to be orchestrated or managed by this center?

I start.
NOHI should:

  • Organize hubs and competency centers in all research units
  • Create trainings for OH developers and researchers who want to turn their research products into OH
  • Make a database/roadmap of essential research tools that are obviously suitable for OH investment because of urgency, economic reasons, reproducibility, etc.
  • Create challenges and calls for Open hardware developments
  • Facilitate inter-operability
  • Lend expertise on OH to research group similar to the eScience center

For me the NOHI should:

  • Incubate Research Hardware Engineers (RHEs) with varied expertise
  • Act as a clearing house for openings, internships etc with regard to OH
  • Facilitate the development of OH standards
  • Pursue replication projects both as a method of teaching and experimenting with developing OH
  • Advice on and support OH entrepreneurship
