Glossary
Lots of the words we use in code, documentation and general chat about this project can have multiple meanings in regular conversation. This page exists to document exactly what we mean in certain cases.
The camera is a single hardware installation, consisting of the lens, the imaging sensor, the digitiser, the pi (or other computer directly attached), and anything else in the box or boxes which get deployed to a site. It has a single ID which does not change over time.
The optical element which focuses light onto the sensor. Lenses are identified by a string which allows for lookup of properties such as lens geometry.
The CCD or other technology which captures light from the lens and creates data which can be interpreted as an image by the rest of the system via the digitiser. Sensors are identified by a string which allows for lookup of properties such as resolution, sensitivity etc.
