For very large areas, when is it worth it to use https://github.com/easbar/fast_paths/? Should the graph files store the CH (more to download and deserialize) or build the CH at startup?

It's also worth checking if the slowdown noticeable in large areas like https://atip.uk/scheme.html?authority=Greater%20London is due to routing or due to finding the nearest point with rstar!
