I'm not quite sure how to configure this for NGINX, but a very basic Apache config example can be found in this test harness. Please Note: The test harness ignores some security considerations like using the local spawner on a host that could potentially manipulate the REMOTE_USER HTTP header. But the proxy configuration for HTTP and web sockets might give you a starting point for configuring NGINX.
