I'm having this exact problem, except over a decade later. I just started playing music from a DAAP server (Rhythmbox on Fedora 34 Linux) on my cell phone (Samsung Galaxy A20). Sometimes a song or two will play uninterrupted, but then it stops (it'll stop midsong or at the end of one song). I've played a few albums through and the problem keeps happening reliably. I unlock the phone to check on it, and sometimes the music starts playing in a few seconds, other times this app just hangs for a long time. I checked my phone settings and the app is not being restricted as far as I can tell (it has "allow background activity" checked). The interruptions have been ruining the musical experience. Any chance anybody knows a workaround?
A small update. I tried 3 other apps for Android for playing DAAP music, and I experienced the same problems with all of them (I'd say all the other ones are worse than this one, most were clearly orphaned projects). So my issues doesn't appear to be specific to this app. I suspect it's a power-saving feature from my phone, not sure what to do about it though. Apps that play local music don't have these problems, so I think it might be a network issue (in that the phone doesn't let the app download songs while the screen is off/sleeping).
