AWS and Rclone are two good examples of existing projects that save configs (granted, not caches) to home ~/.<name of servce> folder

These are therefore always easy to find whereas 'platformdirs' (particularly app data) are usually quite annoying unless there's an easy way to retrieve the absolute path to where you need to go via the programs themselves (e.g., Rclone also has an easy CLI call to print that out)
