I'm writing this on an XPS 13, with Arch Linux and GNOME installed. The firefox version I'm using is 50.1.0-1. None of the media keys work, whether firefox is focused or not, even with the tab playing media focused it doesn't work.

Do your media keys work with other apps, such as banshee?

Yes, they do.

Could you try using v0.7.9? That one uses a different method of detecting media keys in Linux.

FYI - The reason for this problem is because the newer way of listening for MPRIS key presses uses "XKC" or "XKB" (i dunno) and that needs "X" running, which the newer GNOME (Wayland) does not use. The older method uses DBus calls, which works with Wayland & X. My suggestion is that the developer re-implememnts DBus calls becaue using obsolete packages of a program will limit one from accessing the newer features.
