It seems the bs tool does not work with Ruby 1.9.

When running it, I get

/opt/local/bin/bs:49:in `require': no such file to load -- rdoc/usage (LoadError)
from /opt/local/bin/bs:49:in `<main>'

When running with 1.8.7, the util seems to work fine.

To switch between Ruby versions, the rvm-project is very useful.
