Here are the latest as of 2/9/2020 of desktop and core AMD64. I need help testing please.
ARM is getting close, all the builds are now fixed, working out issues with IMG build.

Boot in VBox:

  • grub
  • some intel sound warnings
  • netrunner logo briefly
  • return to text mode
  • desktop

The whole boot took .. 15 seconds? Faster than I can type steps, anyway, which is pretty darn impressive.

Visuals (personal taste)

  • not convinced about the red cursor theme with this reddish background
  • the gradient on a selected desktop icon looks a bit odd

Visuals

  • I have the vbox screen set to 1216 x 933, so the dashboard (? -- the thing that comes up when you click the lower-left netrunner logo) is slightly too big; I guess it expects 1280 width minimum. It's really quick though.

Installation:

  • Calamares 3.2.4 is pretty darn old
  • Korean is an available language for the installer, but no Korean fonts are installed
  • The "welcome" page graphic is getting pretty long-in-the-tooth as well, isn't there a new-ish Netrunner logo to put there? (this is kind of "visuals (personal taste)" though)
  • Is the slideshow Plasma screenshot up-to-date?
  • I picked "erase disk" and all went well in one go.

Installation

One last thing: on the welcome page you can link to the distro, to release notes, to support forums. Is there no interest to configure Calamares to show that? Recent Calamares also have a Donate button (for the distro, or whatever).

Post-install

(After reboot, logging in, changing VBox to full-screen)

  • Python2? Keep in mind this is EOL'ed
  • I ran the "Calamares dev-environment deployer" and that got almost all of the required devel packages (any it missed is on me, not on this ISO).
  • KDevelop 5.3 is the "current" version, but that is over a year old. (Interestingly, after installing that old KDevelop 5.3, some plasma development things were dragged in to the system so more of Calamares could be built)
  • (visuals, personal taste) The dashed line highlight for combo-boxes and buttons looks quite unusual.

So it looks solid (but dated -- that's probably because Debian) from my (very developer-centric) perspective.

Thx for testing. Old versions is indeed because of Debian stable base.
As for artwork. The red cursor should increase contrast afaik.
I don't think we have much saying in this. Clemens chooses the artwork and usually we roll with it then. There is also someone designing the wallpaper
