is it correct to say that an initial analysis might not even analyse the prep phrase? e.g. you might start with

Sure. In fact, my first pass for a sentence like this is often something that distinguishes adverbial adjuncts from the main verb and not much more:
Your "second pass" is also acceptable at that level of granularity. I think it is important and useful to support multiple levels of granularity in analysis. But on a given project, e.g. our markdown of the GNT, we should probably have standards for the final analysis. |
I agree that all 3 levels of granularity above are acceptable & should be supported. |
