I love the functionality of the script... it should grow into a full Inkscape feature or plugin so that people with no terminal knowledge could benefit of it.

thanks for the kind words. how do you actually use it? I mean: it would be possible to integrate such a thing directly in Inkscape... but not likely with the full flexibility available in this script version... so: What kind of criteria do YOU use to distinguish the objects you want to export from those you don't? or what settings do you find most useful?

Well, actually I tried to use it to export individual objects to different .svg but it didn't worked due to an Inkscape bug you have already documented.
What would be great is to have a GUI similar to the one found inside Inkscape that is used to export .png where you can select resolution, area, etc. In the case of your script it would let you choose between exporting the full file into the selected format (it would be needed to add options to tweak that outputs) or just the selected ones in the editor.
When designing icons or apps sketches it's very normal to design it all in just one .svg but at the end you want to export to individual files and you know the export option doesn't allow the kind of options your script does, that are so handy =)
