Currently you can select any supported color palette format in the Save Palette menu, but it will not automatically append the extension to the file name, so if you don't also add the extension at the end of filename (e.g. .col) trying to save palette with fail with error:

Cannot save a color palette in format

image

(note double space between in and format due to extension being empty)

which defeats the purpose of the file format dropdown (except to learn the list of supported formats).

This is a common issue found in several apps (esp. on Linux). Sometimes there is the opposite issue where you enter the extension but it's not recognized until you select it in dropdown, however in this case entering the extension alone works.

Aseprite and System version

  • Aseprite version: v1.3.2-x64 via Humble Bundle installer (debian package I think)
  • System: Linux Ubuntu 22.04

Hi @hsandt, are you using the native file dialog on Linux? I think this issue is related to zenity, which does't properly append the file extension selected in the dropdown when no selection is specified in the filename box.

E.g. the same issue in other project using zenity OpenRCT2/OpenRCT2#3510
