Resgen

Automate the job hunting process by tracking employers you've applied to, while generating custom PDF resumes and cover letters on the fly.

What's so special about Resgen?

  • Easy to use, only one command (once initial setup has commenced): ruby resgen
  • It takes mere seconds to generate a custom cover letter, resume and keep track of the employer you're about to apply to
  • Resgen can detect your operating system and automatically select the correct browser drivers for the automation to use, so all of the technical stuff is done behind the scenes
  • A headless browser is sent to scrape the job posting, so you can circumvent a lot of tricks sites try to pull to prevent people from saving copies of the content
  • It's not built in Python :) While Python is awesome, I wanted to challenge myself so I decided to see what Ruby can do! (For those unaware, data automation is the language of choice for a lot of AI techniques)

What it is not:

  • A job scraper (it will not apply for you, it simply automates the boring parts of the application process - you still have to attach the resume it generates and click send)
  • A bot. Although the scraper is bot-like behavior, all it is does is obtain a copy of the posting for you; it's the same behavior that would function by going to File > Save as > pick a destination > hit save .. only it doesn't bother with things like images, it only snags the source code/text of the job posting; which is the most important thing you'll need to review when you're called for an interview!

Sound good? Let's get started!

  • Linux users: Clone the repo & install dependencies and you're good to go!
  • Mac users: Should be the same deal as Linux, but I am in the process of attempting to test Resgen in a virtual environment, as I do not own any Apple hardware (if something behaves unexpectedly, please let me know!)
  • Windows users: First-time install instructions
