OCCRP operates two related services, https://aleph.occrp.org/ and https://vis.occrp.org/. They let investigators browse and sketch data. We’re working to merge the next version of VIS into OCCRP Data (which runs a software called Aleph).
The tools both communicate using a data model called FollowTheMoney. This contains the types of things (like companies, people, ships, real estate) and the connections that can exist between them (like ownership, directorship, friendship, etc.).
We had a designer make a set of icons for Aleph previously and we still have the icon sets used in VIS1. But the ones in Aleph have widely been criticised for being unclear.
We need icons that can work both as mini-icons in the Aleph UI and as larger icons in a VIS canvas, eg. 16x16 (for Aleph), 64x64 (for VIS). The larger versions could add detail (like gradients) but be based on the same fundamental shape as the tiny version.
The icons need to survive being compiled into JS code with svgo. This means at least the small versions must be built out using only svg/path elements and be monochrome.
