Recursive copying of the cloned repository to $GALAXY_ROOT/config/plugins/visualization/blastvisu is not sufficient. The static assets must be copied to $GALAXY_ROOT/static/visuBlast (note the different name for some reason) and also there is no "Images" folder inside static.
There are truly multiple static assets and they are all lumped together in static but are needed in different places in Galaxy, and thus installation documentation is incomplete. I'm issuing a pull request.
