<p>Flex particles that come in contact with static mesh actors can be deleted (drained) or counted. This only works for flex particles spawned by a Cascade emitter. In order to support “draining” or “counting” the static mesh component needs to be configured with a simplified collision geometry.</p>

<h2>Creating a Drain<a class="headerlink" href="#creating-a-drain" title="Permalink to this headline">¶</a></h2>
<p>To create a particle drain from a static mesh actor, the <strong>Advanced Collision</strong> settings of the <strong>Static Mesh Component</strong> in the details property panel needs to be opened. The <strong>Flex Particle Drain</strong> checkbox can used to enable the functionality. Note that the static mesh needs to be configured for simplified collision. Particles that come in contact with the corresponding actor are deleted automatically.</p>

<h2>Counting Particles<a class="headerlink" href="#counting-particles" title="Permalink to this headline">¶</a></h2>
<p>Static mesh components can be configured such that their <strong>Flex Particle Count</strong> property get’s increased with every particle that comes in contact. Similarly to the draining, the counting functionality can be enabled by checking the <strong>Flex Enable Particle Counter</strong> checkbox in the <strong>Advanced Collision</strong> settings of the <strong>Static Mesh Component</strong>. The particle count value can be accessed in <strong>Blueprint</strong> through the <strong>Static Mesh Component</strong> property <strong>Flex Particle Count</strong> as shows in the image below. While in contact particles are only counted once, however particles that loose contact and re-gain it are counted again. The counting is not accurate if multiple “counting actors” intersect each other.</p>

<p>Draining and counting can be used with the same actor in order to count all deleted particles. Note that both draining and counting are not accurate in a situation where a particle comes in contact with more than 4 actors simultaneously.</p>
