Unable to CTRL + Q + Drag when outside of a chest

I found an insanely useful interaction when trying to dispose of items where I could CTRL + Q and then drag the mouse over items while inside of a chest to drop their entire stacks on the floor. When i try to do this without having a chest open however, such as from my own inventory, it doesn't work.
I believe it might be intended for it not to work as the inventory might not count as a container, but it would be insanely useful to be able to quickly drag drop stacks of items straight from the player inventory
