This is more a cbz/cbr standard but let's give it a try.
Would be great if the comics tags are included inside the file itself instead on inside the library cache. This allows to keep tags everywhere.
It might be a file like "metadata", hidden maybe, formatted as xml or json. The file is readed if present and compiled when not. Then sure, the cache/DB might contain an index or so, for a faster search.
Maybe just a libraly from 7-Zip, or similar, could allow to recompile/add to cbz/cbr archives (dunno how the files are managed now).

I am against modifying the original files, but YACReader supports ComicInfo.xml when the library scans comics and it is also able to re-scan that information from existing files in the library. So maybe you can use a dedicated app for tagging the files like ComicTagger and let YACReaderLibrary scan that info after you add the tags.
