This could be fun! When do we need this by, though? Is there a hard deadline? I'm new at Blender and wouldn't mind trying but not sure it it will turn out well enough to be included? |
Also any thoughts on scaling so I don't make, for example, a giant Adirondack chair? |
There is no deadline, but if the scene starts to come together there could be peer pressure. 😄 I try to make things human scale, I have a 6ft tall man I drop in my scenes for scale but there are also tools for measuring in Blender. |
Great thank you! I'm a total beginner but have to jump in to learn. This will get me in gear if people are expecting stuff. |
Great, thank you! I knew I'd have to get going if I jumped in. Looking
at your GitHub guide as I listen to our weekly discussion.

Hi Jacob,
Thank you for your kind offer! I would like to screen share with you at
your convenience. David777 was right, I was trying to open the overall
folder in Unity, but I'd like to check with you and see where I open what
we're working on and how to make a copy of the scene for myself (I'm
assuming "Save As" but this is my first collab project, so I don't want to
risk messing up anyone's work!).
My main question: I'm in our collab project and where do I go from here,
to see the scene and make a copy? I just get the blank Unity standard
skybox and didn't want to fiddle around too much for fear of changing
something.
Also, I was a little confused if we need GitTortoise AND GitKraken? Git
Kraken appears to work for me but GitTortoise needed a lot more steps that
sounded like Greek.
When is a good time for me to do a Zoom call with you?

@SilverWyzardess How is this going, did we get this merged into the project yet? I'm at a point where I want to try to pull in some of this art. |
Hi Jacob,
Here's where I am so far! I'm happy with my umbrella table, chairs and
chaise lounge but not so much with the settee. The cushions look like
jagged teeth!
Silly "beginner" question: how do I export these pieces of furniture and
merge them into the project? (I think I may make a bench instead of that
settee.)
Next I'll plan to play around with the figure you sent, making him a statue
or birdbath, perhaps. What else do we need? A small cocktail table in
front of the settee or bench comes to mind. I don't know if my first-time
Blender skills are quite up to par to make Adirondack chairs yet (I've just
seen three Grant Abbitt videos in between my work and school commitments)
but I can certainly try!
Do we have a hard deadline on this, by which you absolutely need
everything? And since I'm a beginner, where do I need to improve on these?
Thank you for all your help!

Well, duh. I just realized, the document you made explains most of this.
Sorry for all the questions.
Let me see if I can figure out how to export the models and share them in
our GitHub. Then I can ask questions if I still have them, during our
Saturday call.

Good to get to talk with you this morning--thank you for your kind,
encouraging words.
Yes, when we can I'd love to do a Zoom call with you and share my screen.
I really don't know what I don't know, so far.

Hi Jacob,
I apologize--we totally missed connections yesterday! I was off Discord
due to meeting a couple of deadlines and my email alerted me* this
morning *that
you'd sent me a message yesterday.
I'll like to get those models in too; thank you for including me. The
quickest way to reach me is to text:. I have an eye doctor
appointment in the morning (Pacific time) but should be home in the
afternoon, or available most of the day Thursday/Friday.
Which days work for you? Or is there another time that works better? I'm
getting the impression that you have a superbusy schedule too.
Dot
P.S. I'm playing around with an Adirondack chair too.

Here is my current thinking... Cornhole is a two player game and it needs networking. So what I think we should do is build out the corn hole scene as best we can. Put it in a pretty backyard with a picked fence and a house (that you can't enter). There should be a nice lawn and some yard accouterments such as a lawn, shrubs, trees, furniture and BBQ. Maybe even some critters that run by every once and a while. I posted a link to corn-hole rules. There are some interesting challenges here. Scoring is dependent on where your bags lands and weather they go through the wholes. Also, scoring is based on not just your bags but your opponents bag locations. We need a score board (maybe a chalk board or white board). To connect players we will need a lobby and a relay server. There is a lot here but its so small once it is working it will be a good jumping off point.
Also, I don't know if you have tried to throw the cube in the scene, but it doesn't go very far. Some physics or scripting will be needed to make it feel right. I about an pulling my arm out of the socket to get the cube to go what feels like a couple of feet (2/3 m). If I was throwing that hard IRL the bag would go over the fence. Hehe. What if you had an angry neighbor that throws the bag back if it goes over the fence?
