Database file access #6
Comments
@ucchejbb Just following up on this - we are trying to recreate some of these tools in Excel and having access to the databases would be very helpful. If you do not have the access password or are not able to provide access to the databases I understand, just curious if this is even possible or if we will need to start from scratch. |
@kdoudrick Sorry Kyle, I thought I had already replied to this, but evidently not. No, at the moment I do not have a password for these databases. We are planning to begin work on updating the UI to better work with Windows10, but that work has not started yet. I was not the original developer of these tools, and I shared the majority of the files that were given to me by the original group. If you need this in a database soon, I think you may need to recreate them. There is a slim chance that this information is with the raw files, so I'll see if I can find that tomorrow. I'm not holding out hope, but I'll see if there is anything there. |
@ucchejbb Great, thank you...as I suspected with these archaic db files. I also reached out to the developers at M. Tech, but have not had much luck. If we are able to get the databases, I could probably get a comp eng student to put this in python or something similar as a semester project. Looking forward to the updated UI. |
@kdoudrick Ok. I also reached out to the MTU group. I'll try to update things tomorrow. Thanks. |
@kdoudrick Try searching for "password" in this repository. I found a few mentions throughout this repository with possible passwords. They are in some of the .bas files. If that doesn't work, which files are you trying to access? If I knew, I might be able to search for those specifically on my end to see if I have unlocked versions. |
@ucchejbb Perfect - thank you! I found "nopassword" and "unsecured" versions of most of the databases (e.g., stepp, isotherms, carbon). I was able to open these '97 Access files in MDB Plus. |
@kdoudrick Great. I'm glad that you were able to find those files. I'm going to leave this issue open in case someone else is looking for similar information. |
@ucchejbb Adding the Excel format of some relevant databases here. We can delete this if you think these files are worth adding to the github. STEPP.xlsx |
@kdoudrick Thanks! Let's leave these here for the moment. I think these will help into the future and can be moved into the main repository as the various tools are updated. Since this is likely going to be a longer process, this will keep them "temporarily" until this issue can be officially closed with updated GUIs. |
@ucchejbb Do you have the password to access the database files? If not, are you able to provide that data as an Excel or a modern Access database?
