Hi Group 26,

This is a very interesting data set choice! I really applaud your aspirations for making a dashboard that would help employers and employees improve working conditions for tech workers.

  • I am having some trouble aligning your dashboard with your scenario and data. The data set is not very big so I’m wondering if all of your data is from one year. In which case you don’t need the year selection. I do not see where the year selection ties into the plots you have proposed.
  • I am also not sure you can generalize your data to a proportion of population, and using counts might be a better choice. Also, do you have more data points in different countries than others, certain countries definitely have bigger tech industries than others. So I am not sure if a user could make conclusions on which country has the best working conditions based on this data. The more I think about your data the more I question what can be done with it without knowing more about how the data was collected, by who, and why.
  • I am not sure you can answer most of your research questions with your data and dashboard. Come talk with me to brainstorm a re-frame of your approach.

Hello Analise, thank you for the feedback! I was wondering are we allowed to rephrase our proposal so that they fit what we want to present in our dashboard? Will this get marked for milestone 2? Or is milestone 2 just based on the interactivity of our App as well as deployment onto heroku.

Thanks

Jason

Hello Analise @ahofmann4 Thx for your feedback!!!

  • For the first point, the reason why we add the year filter is to provide users a more friendly interface even the dataset is not large. With more details, it is not filtered by only YEAR, it provides u a calendar to let users select the date. When u select a certain date range, the 4 bar charts of the dashboard can automatically only show you the corresponding data within that date range u set. U can have a try using https://mental-health-dashboard-ubc.herokuapp.com/.

  • For the 2nd point, we finally have chosen to use a proportion of the population to represent Y-axis instead of the count, since the proportion is more straightforward for users to have a sense of the distribution. We achieved this by manipulating the pandas dataframe and calculated the proportion before plotting.

  • For the last point, we might revise the proposal a bit to fit and revise the plotting a bit, as u know, it can't be perfect when making the draft of the proposal and the sketch of the dashboard in the 1st week. Our team has some idea to interpret the relationship between mental health and gender/location. I have put them under "Future improvements and additions for the dashboard" of the reflection markdown file. And we will try to revise it later:)
