Remapping Controls in Mame4All

Hello, all

Quick question. I've got the MiyooCFW running on a PowKiddy V90. Wondering if there's a way to remap buttons in Mame4All. I'd like to remap the A,B,X,Y buttons to simluate a second gamepad for titles like Robotron and Smash T.V.

Hi @SerolfDivad. Unless you can do it in the MAME4All user interface settings for the game (just before launching the game), to my best knowledge there sadly isn't. Unlike MAME, MAME4All stores all CFG files as binaries, so they can't be manually configured/edited. :/

Note that that SNES hack will make some games work faster, and it will break others -- so use it with discretion. I found that I had to edit some games out of the snesadvance.dat file (you can open it in a text editor), to remove the individual lines associated with some games, so that my whole collection of SNES games will work -- that those that do work with the hack will work faster, while those that break with the hack will not be touched by the hack.

It takes a bit of trial and error to see which games work with it and which not, and edit/tweak it accordingly.

SNES emulation is definitely not the fastest on Miyoo devices. Mega Drive (PicoDrive) and Neo Geo (GnGeo) win those medals, as both emulators are specifically built for ARM processors, and the games render at the Miyoo devices' native screen resolution.

NES and SNES run playably for the most part, but the emulation is not well optimised (speed depends on the particular game, and they're not really made for Miyoo fullscreen, although they look fine).

Note that the Miyoo Mini is a different beast to the rest of the family -- so some things will be different with it from the V90 and the rest.

Also, note that when it comes to SNES vs. Sega Mega Drive, maybe not in this case, but Sega has the better quality games, usually, SNES has more graphics and richer sound, but Sega has faster and better gameplay and a better, more wholesome overall experience with the games.

SNES wins in depth of colour and sound, Sega Mega Drive wins in everything else that matters! ;)

I used to be a Nintendo fan in my childhood, until I discovered just what I had been missing with Sega as an adult! Now I have way more Mega Drive games than I have SNES games, and I'm thoroughly enjoying them on my Q90 and PC. The selection of games and their quality is just so much better!

I think you'll also love the Neo Geo -- it's packed with arcade-quality action games: a great selection of quality fighting games, Metal Slug, Blazing Star, and other top-down and sidescrolling shooters:

Thanks, yeah... just starting to take a look at the Neo Geo selection. Not a big fan of fightnig games, and that has held me back a bit since sooo many Neo Geo games seem to be fighting games, but there do seem to be a number of shooters that look interesting.

Yes, the majority of Neo Geo's collection is (great) fighting games, but you have other great arcade classics among them, too -- from sports (Super Sidekicks, Windjammers), through character side-scrolling shooters, platformers, and beat-'em-ups (Metal Slug, NAM-1975, Top Hunter: Roddy & Cathy, Spin Master, Blue's Journey, Sengoku), to flying shooters (Aero Fighters, Blazing Star, Viewpoint, Pulstar, Twinkle Star Sprites), and even a number of notable puzzle games on the platform. The variety gets swallowed by the sheer amount of great fighting games that SNK has produced, but there's plenty of other types of games on Neo Geo, too -- and a number of great non-fighting-game arcade classics, as you can see in my list above!

Perhaps most recognisable by name is Metal Slug -- which is a world-famous and long-running series that started on the Neo Geo. And Super Sidekicks -- the most well-known and popular arcade soccer game series.

So, yeah, don't avoid Neo Geo just because the majority of its titles are fighting games. There is more to be found on this great (and once groundbreaking, elite) arcade gaming platform. And it runs amazing on Miyoo devices.
