Picodrive as the default SMS/GG emulator?

In my experience, running those systems in Picodrive is the better option, the only issues are the lack of scaling and that fast forward lacks a cap, and it runs way too fast.

Did you test GenesisPlusGX core on RetroArch? It offers overclocking emulated CPU, which helps greatly with badly optimized games - one example would be Sonic Chaos on GG (see how it runs on Picodrive\other emulator and then compare to RA core with OC set to 125% of oe CPU). Futhermore it has also variable FastForward setting in Frame Throttle section iirc. Same goes for SMS, it has other scaling options and I would say independent Picodrive and it's corresponding RA core complement each other in that regard.

That being said I agree with you, that Picodrive is better option for SMS/GG from all available standalone emulators.

That would definitely be a better solution. Maybe just create a shortcut for the cores that are the better fit for the V90.
