Welcome to the 2048 wiki

Thanks a million Thomas!

Why would someone play the 3x4 version of 2048?

Well... have you ever got to the ultimate stage of the original 2048, when you have successfully created an 8192 tile, then you have right next to it a beautiful 4092 tile, and maybe the 2048 sits on the left.... you even have a 1048 tile in the leftmost corner, and... you panick? Or, put simply, you notice that the game changes and you have to learn how to unravel the last 1024?

You need to play 2048 in a version 3x4!

You know why? Because it often takes in the range of three hours to get to that position, and it's really frustrating to throw them away on a wrong move or a bit of unmanaged bad luck.

Trying to play in that very specific situation of having an entire row locked and unusable is a little complex, and it seemed to me slightly different than the previous stages of the game. At the tenth time I was hitting 8192+4096+2048+etc I realized that I needed some practice in a protected environment.

Maybe it's just a matter of getting confident enough not, maybe there's another trick to be learnt....

Will report if it helps me hitting the 16384 barrier.
