As more and more atomic meetups are created, how do we maintain cross functional activities and prevent information siloing?

Some ideas I've heard discussed tonight:

  • hold multiple meetups together occasionally, same time and place, like a mini conference
  • encourage meetup crossover - share presenters, topics, attendees

I've thrown this around but I like the idea of a mini conference / meet-and-greet to mingle with one another and allow community members to see what we're doing. Philly did this on a larger scale recently (http://www.meetup.com/Technically-Philly/events/223444289/) and the feedback I've been reading is super positive. I really enjoy event planning so if anyone is interested in doing this we could definitely get it underway.

Also as we develop our sites/info hubs/social media accounts we should cross-link amongst one anothers' to give members easy visibility.

I know as we are all scheduling this stuff in our free time with volunteers who aren't always on site but I thought that each meetup should devote some time to advertising the other meetups. Tech Lancaster (being one of the bigger ones) does this already, not sure about the others. It would be cool to have those who use projectors to maybe have the new tech lancaster site sort of scroll through the other meetups, when they are meeting that week, and if possible a blurb about what's going on. (I know, I know that's more planning on organizers.)

That way as people mingle before (and after?) the meetups there would be a large, obvious thing to see that there are other meetups in the area that people should jump into. That way to get the advertising for all meetups doesn't require other organizers to be at all other meetups as well.

And I like the idea of a mini-conference where maybe highlights might be beneficial. Not sure how it would work but it would be cool.

Also a big fan if maybe the new Tech Lancaster site should act like a parent site to other meetup sites. That the other groups could kind of use the same theme with their own branding and each site has the lineup of other meetups.

[Really I just want to put "part of the Tech Lancaster community" on the MM website.]
