Getting started

- Installing Star Wars FFG
- Creating a world
- Importing OggDude data
- Import Star Wars Adversaries data
- What next?
This implementation of Star Wars FFG is intended to be used with Foundry Virtual Tabletop. You have two major options for how to run it (both of which require purchasing Foundry):
- Self-hosted, e.g. on your computer
- The Forge
Running Foundry in The Forge costs money but abstracts away the need for setting up the software and making it accessible to your players, while self-hosting the software gives complete control over the assets and costs nothing extra, but requires you to be more hands-on.
The official Foundry wiki has more information about how to perform the actual setup.
Once you have a copy of Foundry up and running, you'll need to install the game system. To do so, follow these steps:
- Select
Game Systems
- Select
Install System
- Search for "star wars"
- Select
Star Wars FFG system for Foundry VTT
- Click
Install
Now that the system is installed, you'll need to create a world. Head back to Game Worlds
, click Create World
, and make sure you select Star Wars FFG
from the Game System
drop down.
Because the content of FFG Star Wars is copyrighted, you'll need to fill content in yourself. To assist in this, the developers have created several tools which permit you to import data from other, more commonly used tools.
To import the vast majority of item data, you can use the OggDude dataset importer.
- From within your world, select
Game Settings
- Click
Configure Settings
- Select
System Settings
- Click
OggDude Dataset Importer
- ZIP up the
Data
folder of your OggDude Character Generator (picture below) - Select your zipped data file using the "Choose File" file picker
- Click
Load File
- Select the types of things you'd like to import
- Click
Start Import
The resulting data is added to a series of Compendiums.
Note If any of the compendiums are blank it also usually means there is an issue with your dataset, but if on the dev branch it could also be a bug, bring it up in the Discord channel.
You can import all of the NPCs listed on Star Wars Adversaries as well. To do so:
- Navigate to the Github page
- Click the green
Code
button and selectDownload ZIP
- From within your world, select
Game Settings
- Click
Configure Settings
- Select
System Settings
- Select
SW Adversaries Importer
- Select the ZIP you downloaded in step 2
- Click "Start Import"
NOTE
Because this adversaries data is not set up to use OggDude data, the adversaries imported will not have any items from those compendiums, so if there is a typo in the adversaries data, it will show up.
Now that you've got gear, skills, NPCs, etc, you might be wondering what you should do next. Recommended next steps:
- Create the critical tables
- Create custom items
- Begin collecting assets and artwork
It may be helpful to create custom items with +1 soak, +2 soak, etc to quickly correct NPCs which didn't import correctly (you can then drag these items onto the appropriate NPCs so they have the correct soak without having to search for an item which gives that amount of soak.)
