Whenever using the VSC search bar or going through source files it just stops working for an unknown reason. This started happening only after last update.

Probably syntax highlighting, you can switch log level to debug in settings to see what extension was doing.

Does this happen on specific files?
Have you updated other extensions?

You can install old version from extensions menu.
