A user should be notified upon successfully saving a recipe.

I don't think a messagebox is a great approach here, a toast-like notification (an Android OS term...) may be available in Qt, I'd need to check. Do you have a particular visual indicator in mind?

Having played with the app again, I'll agree that pressing the Save button offers absolutely no visual feedback that anything has occurred. At minimum, the Save button should provide some feedback of some sort. Will add to list.
