Just a little inspiration on Categorical Display of Continuous Surfaces

I was just watching a talk from Kelley Jorgenson of Plas Newydd where she shared the map below of existing and proposed detrended topography (e.g. HAND). In this example she has taken the detrended elevation ramp and categorized it in a really compelling way. Bare in mind this is a riverscape that is part of a freshwater estuary and has a 9' tidal range.
