List of Scripting Changes

Here's a list of potential or confirmed changes between versions 1.x and 2.0. This list will be expanded over time. Feedback is greatly appreciated! (You can check the quick start guide for v1 to see how these would affect the language.)

Additions

• lua-style concatenation operator .., rather than overloading the + operator
• pass-by-reference - this was possible for native functions in v1, but it was an unintended bug. However, it eventually became widely used, so making it official makes sense
• Multiple return values - I wanted this for v1, but technical issues prevented it

Changes

• keyword astype changed to typeas
• boolean values can not be used as keys in tables (in addition to null) - first noted in Remember to disallow booleans as keys in dictionaries. #120
• slice notation is being reworked as a counterpart to the concat operator.

Removals

• ...

Maybes

• do-while loops - I skipped them last time because they were so rarely used, but if they're easy to implement, then I'll add them (see OP_IF_FALSE_JUMP #9 for my old notes)
• Stack type - I have a fully functioning stack system, it could be reused as an actual type in the lang.

I'd love feedback on what features are considered essential, as well as syntax (see #148).

I'm also wondering if stacks would be a useful structure.

Someone asked if the switch keyword will be included. I need to do some thinking on this.
