Notes from the 04/23/2023 AGEPRO project meeting

• This was a group discussion of requirements for AGEPRO to meet expected SAP projection needs.
• Basic requirement was to add a two-sex modeling capacity to AGEPRO.
• Secondary requirement was to add hermaphroditic two-sex modeling capacity to AGEPRO.
• Basic requirement entails including a logical option to have female and male populations with joint harvest by the modeled fleets.
• The two-sex model would essentially double the existing AGEPRO data structures for input, processing and output.
• It seems a two-sex model could be readily extended to a hermaphroditic model with the inclusion of a sex-transition vector at age to convert females to males but this would need to be consistent with the hermaphrodite implementation in the assessment platform, SS3.
• The modular structure of AGEPRO will facilitate development of a two-sex model.
• The project to add the two-sex modeling capacity would follow a 4-step development cycle of requirements, design, implementation, and testing.
• The basic requirement appears to be set.
• The design may be able to use a list of lists approach from r4SS to handle input file objects by keyword, e.g., natural mortality.
• Eric will follow up with a work plan including a time line with deliverables for the project with input from Felipe and others to be completed in May.
• It was noted that other minor refinements to AGEPRO could be included as needed, such as the addition of more than one reference or threshold for projected fishing mortality or biomass or other output quantities like catch.
