Experimental builds for Linux

Experimental packages for early testers

There is also a set of packages with experimental builds provided by community member @letsfindaway. A new experimental version is created for each alpha, beta, release candidate and release version of OpenBoard, i.e. a new build whenever the version number in the version.txt file changes, but also after some important development step. In some cases they might even include code from unmerged pull requests, just to try out a specific feature or fix.

These experimental versions allow early insight into the development of OpenBoard. Any feedback from testers is welcome!

Distributions

The list of distribution versions of my builds using Qt5 is currently:

  • openSUSE Leap 15.4
  • openSUSE Leap 15.5
  • openSUSE Leap 15.6
  • openSUSE Leap 16.0 (pre-alpha)
  • openSUSE Tumbleweed
  • Debian 11
  • Debian 12
  • Debian Testing (13)
  • Debian Unstable (14)
  • Ubuntu 22.04
  • Ubuntu 22.10
  • Ubuntu 23.04
  • Ubuntu 23.10
  • Ubuntu 24.04
  • Ubuntu 24.10
  • Arch Linux

If you want to check them out, you can download the ready-built binary packages or even add the repositories as a package source. To download a package:

You may also add the repository URL to your package manager to enable automatic updates for new experimental builds.

Differences

Please note that these builds - in contrast to the official ones

  • install to /usr/bin and /usr/share/openboard (not /opt),
  • install configuration files to /etc/openboard,
  • never contain a bundled Qt version but always use the platform's current version.
