Summary

Share a public draft of a revised charter for the Fedora Mindshare Committee in time for the Committee to review at the start of its next F41 term.

Background

The Fedora Mindshare Committee is one of the top-level governance bodies of Fedora, but it is in a state of decay. The group never restarted fully after COVID-19 and changes to Red Hat budgeting processes made the role of community engagement more opaque. However, the function of the Mindshare Committee is still important, but it needs to be thought through again to be relevant for Fedora in the 2020s.

The scope of this issue is to publish a public proposal with an updated charter for the Fedora Mindshare Committee. This charter will serve to better define Mindshare Committee responsibilities and powers, and also revise the membership structure of the Committee. The approximate timeline to execute this proposal should take one release cycle; however, the scope of this issue is to propose the new charter to the Committee for review and iteration.

Details

  • Hold conversations with community stakeholders about challenges, successes, and ideas with the Mindshare Committee
  • Recruit @amoloney1 and @sumantro93 as co-authors of a new charter
  • Propose charter to Fedora Mindshare Committee at start of next term
  • Propose a 2025 Council Hackfest agenda topic for feedback on the proposed charter of the Mindshare Committee

Outcome

  • Improved functioning of this top-level governance body and renewed energy for the purpose of the committee
  • More transparency and input into community budget spending
  • I become less overwhelmed with managing many requests for supporting various events all over the world
