NorESM2-MM consideration of orography?

Hi!
As a climate data scientist working for a private company, I've been using various climate projections for certain climate-risk-related calculations. My approach is to read, extract and analyse netcdf4 data with Python. Recently, I came across NEX-GDDP-CMIP6 projections, with multiple GCM models available for download and use, one of which is yours, NorESM2-MM. However, opposed to the CORDEX models from Copernicus, nowhere did I find a file containing data about orography? Moreover, even in NEX-GDDP-CMIP6 documentation there is no mention of anything relating to orography (surface, altitude, elevation, geopotential...). This has continued even further when going through yours user guide for NorESM2.

I don't if I'm missing something, or if the orography is buried even deeper within some climate land model or some other input data that you used without explicitly mentioning it?

Hi Lovel,

Sorry for the late reply. There is a variable, named 'orog' defining the 'surface' of the model, that is the lower boundary of the atmosphere.

Is that something you are looking for?

Yes, the ESGF is precisely the right place for obtaining the data.

The corresponding data file from either of the NorESM2 experiments should give you the right data.

Thank you for the reply, however, at the given site I have only found orog files for NorESM1 experiments (M or ME), which is unfortunately not what I am looking for. Just by searching for all products from NCC, the results are only for CMIP5 and none for CMIP6.
