To avoid having to store a skybox, atmosphere could be simulated.
Since generally planets don't exist and flat geometry is used, the atmosphere could be assumed as two spheres where the xz translation is cancelled out but the y is maintained to keep the ability to travel through the atmosphere. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxfEbulyFcY
