I have no experience writing RFC's, but if this is going to be a foundation for a real protocol and process, that strikes me as the right approach.

Full disclosure: this plays into another hope for this system, but I've decided to post that in a new issue... TBA

You think this issue is worth keeping around for later conversion to an RFC? Or should I close?
The RFC on writing RFC's!

My github profile is too kind. I'm very conversational online, so I have breadth, but not as much depth as I'd like :)

But yes, I'd love to leave this open.
