It looks like a lot of code has been pushed since the last release. What's the status? #16
Comments
Most of it were focused on two things: updating the launcher to better support launching to the QuickTime 7 app instead of the QuickTime X version. The other thing is I wanted to update to a more modern version of FFMpeg. Unfortunately, a lot of internal changes has made updating FFMpeg non-trivial. As it is, this project is as good as being abandoned. Sorry. |
I'm not sure I can be of any help. I did use Perian 1.3.2 for the codec support and I understand it had other functions. I don't use it now and have not tried this other software you reference.

Hello! This isn't an annoying "is this maintained/dead" nag post, I promise! I'd just like to know where the project ended up!
I noticed that although the last Github release is from 2013, a lot of code has been pushed to other branches since then! For example, I spotted this commit <3914f00>, which seems like it may have added vp9 support. If I can get vp9 to play in QuickTime, that's something I very much want to have!
Does any of this new code work, or should I stick with the last published release? And, if I'm going to need to compile my own copy to use the new code, can you provide any hints on getting it to build (for example, is there a specific version of xCode or macOS SDK I should use?)
I'm on Mavericks, and using a version of QuickTime X I pulled from Mountain Lion and hacked to work, so I don't need to worry about Apple's dumb deprecation moves! :) Thank you so much!

Thanks, I figured as much on the abandoned part! I'm just trying to suss out where it all ended up. Is any of your work on updating ffmpeg usable, or should I not bother? |
I'd say not bother. |
As much as I did value and install Perian regularly for my clients, not having it now seems to no longer have a deleterious effect. Perhaps it supported discontinued codecs and as we both know QuickTIme 7 has been discontinued now. Unless you wish to work for the small market of users with obsolete operating systems. If I was an active programmer, I would say the interesting area of interest would be anything that is M1 native. It's quite likely you don't have one of these to test your work, but this seems to have the most promise.
