Challenge 1

Attend a GitHub Sustainability talk and workshop

Objectives:

  • Learn about Green Software, sustainability, and how you can start impacting Climate Change at one or both of GitHub Sustainability's workshops during GHW: Career Week!
  • Learn about Green Software first hand from industry leaders and innovators!
  • Share a screenshot of the livestream on our submission form!

Check out the GitHub Green Software repo and give it a star!

Objectives:

  • Green Software Engineering is a relatively new discipline that centers on sustainable software development practices.
  • The GitHub Green Software Directory is a great place to find Green Open Source projects.
  • Give it a star to make sure you can keep track of any important updates!
  • Share a screenshot of the starred repo on our submission form!

Challenge 3

Find and star your favorite Green Software project

Objectives:

  • There are a ton of great Green Open Source projects on the GitHub Green Software directory.
  • Make sure to start your favorite projects so you can keep track of them!
  • Find your favorite and give it a star to make sure you can keep track of any important updates!
  • Share a screenshot of the starred repo on our submission form!

Take Climate Action!

Objectives:

  • Find a way to reduce your code's carbon footprint.
  • To help you get started, we're providing a list of GitHub's top 10 tools to "green" your software.
  • Share your implementation with us on our Devpost Page!

Submit a pull request to a Green Open Source Project

Objectives:

  • What better way to continue your career journey than by contributing to Open Source?
  • Find a Green Open Source project from the directory and submit a pull request!
  • No action is too great or too small. Help Green Open Source project maintainers by identifying ways you can improve their projects.
  • Share a link of your pull request on our submission form!
